Wer freut sich nicht, wenn er ein kleines Kind sieht, das ganz unbefangen vor sich hin spielt? Wer erliegt nicht dem Charme eines kleinen Kindes? Wer findet nicht Menschen seltsam, die kleine Kinder nicht mögen? Das Kind, das hier vor dem Dornwald mit seinen Symbolen für Gewalt und Leid sitzt, verkörpert Unschuld und Sorglosigkeit. Es lebt noch in einer anderen Welt als wir, die von Verlust- und Zukunftsängsten bedrängt werden. In solch einem Kind, so der Grund der Weihnachtsfreude, soll Gott selbst, der Schöpfer und Erhalter der Welt, zu uns Menschen gekommen sein.

Who doesn't rejoice when they see a small child playing innocently? Who doesn't succumb to the charm of a small child? Who doesn't find people who don't like small children strange? The child sitting here in front of the thorn forest with its symbols of violence and suffering embodies innocence and carefreeness. It still lives in a different world than we do, which is plagued by fears of loss and the future. In such a child, according to the reason for Christmas joy, God himself, the creator and sustainer of the world, is said to have come to us humans.
